Hi there! So, you’re thinking about taking up improvisation. Or you’ve been improvising for a bit and you’re wondering if these Improv North folks are right for you. Or a third thing, I don’t know you. Whatever your reason, you’ve come to the right place - our Taster Class! This is a two hour whistle stop tour through some basic improv principles and a good window into how we teach the rest of our classes - just enough for you to get a sense of how fun improv can be and how we work as an organisation. Some of the essentials we’ll cover are things like the base principle of Yes, And, how to initiate scenes with clear offers, and the basics of comic escalation. We’ll also do some big, dumb warm up games in a circle - it’s an improv class after all. We pride ourselves on maintaining a safe space for everyone to play and learn how to improvise without bigotry or prejudice turning up. To that end, we of course don’t permit racist, sexist, transphobic or similar material! We’re here to be excellent to each other and keep the space at its most respectful and fun. We are based at the Northern Monk Refectory on Tariff Street, Manchester. Join us!
