WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IMPROV NORTH AND OTHER NORTH WEST TRAINING SCHOOLS?
We teach long-form, organic improvisation rather than focusing on short-form games. From the guiding improv principle of ‘Yes, And-ing’, we work on building grounded, engaging scenes with a spectrum of character work.
WHAT SORT OF CLASSES DO YOU RUN?
We have classes for all levels of experience from our Level One - Improv Fundamentals course, all the way up to our Level 3, 4 and 5 courses that culminate in a public performance! Each level will incorporate more challenging improv techniques and processes including learning formal structures like The Harold, Slacker and Armando.
HOW MUCH ARE YOUR CLASSES?
We offer taster sessions for £5 and full 8-week courses for £200.
CAN I HAVE A PAYMENT PLAN?
Yes! We now offer payments in instalments via Clearpay.
WHERE ARE YOU BASED?
Most classes are run at the Northern Monk Refectory, 10 Tariff St, Manchester M1 2FF though some will run in alternate spaces like the 53 Two Rehearsal Studio on Deansgate or Tibb Street Studio. They will always be in central Manchester.
HOW OFTEN ARE THE CLASSES?
The full courses run for 8-weeks - one session per week.
I'M A TOTAL BEGINNER, IS THIS RIGHT FOR ME?!
Short answer: yes!
It’s normal to feel nervous, especially when you perhaps have zero experience of anything like this. Improv is a team sport - everyone is there to support their fellow improvisers. Plus, your teacher will be there the whole time to guide you through the process.
WILL I PERFORM IN A SHOW?
Eventually! Level 3 courses and above with do a class at the end of the course. We also have plans to add shows outside of the classes and there will be limited opportunities to be cast in those.
WHO ARE THE TEACHERS?
Classes will be taught by either Paul, Freya, Charlie or Rob. As our tutors also work elsewhere in the Arts, that means that external contracts can come in at any time so you may have a substitute teacher for a lesson during your course.
CAN I BUY A CLASS AS A GIFT?
Yes! What a nice present. Purchase the course as usual and then contact us and we can send them / you a gift voucher.
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?
Our classes are intended for those of 18 years or older.
